Long-term Episode 126 · Question 2

I saw media outlets testing the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra on the track where the brake pads turned red. What is this situation, and will it affect braking performance?

Official answer
There is no need to worry; this is a normal situation, and the braking performance of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra will not be affected by it. During track driving, vehicles often need to perform emergency braking after high-speed runs, causing the load on the braking system to be much higher than in daily driving. Under these conditions, the temperature of the brake discs rises sharply, and as the temperature increases, the color of the brake discs becomes red and brighter. We understand the critical role of the braking system in extreme track conditions, which is why the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra comes standard with extra-large carbon ceramic brake discs across all models. The maximum operating temperature of carbon ceramic brake discs reaches 1300 degrees Celsius, and they have extremely strong resistance to thermal fade, meeting the demands of continuous track driving. With the support of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra's track-version braking system, the 100-0km/h braking distance of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is as low as 30.8m, and the 180-0km/h braking test can be performed continuously 10 times without degradation, meeting the anti-thermal fade performance requirements for continuous high-intensity track driving.
