Long-term Episode 232 · Question 5

The teardown livestream mentioned that the new-generation SU7 uses substantial materials for its crash boxes. Can you elaborate on this?

Official answer

The front crash box is located between the front anti-collision beam and the front longitudinal beam. Its core function is to absorb collision energy through its own deformation during a frontal impact. By optimizing the length, cavity structure, connection method, and material selection, the front crash box of the new-generation Xiaomi SU7 significantly improves energy absorption capacity, thereby enhancing overall vehicle safety performance while also considering repair economy;

Specifically, the deformable zone of the front crash box on the new-generation Xiaomi SU7 reaches a length of 280mm and adopts a grid-like cavity structure. This design ensures stable deformation during a collision, effectively bearing and absorbing more energy, thereby reducing the impact on the passenger cabin;

In addition, the front crash box is bolted to both the front anti-collision beam and the front longitudinal beam. In low-speed collisions, if the front longitudinal beam is undamaged, only the anti-collision beam and crash box need to be replaced, effectively improving repair economy.
