For the Xiaomi Pengcheng series' face-to-face seating mode, why was the first and second row configuration chosen instead of the second and third rows?
During the initial product design phase, we carefully studied two different options: face-to-face seating between the first and second rows, and between the second and third rows. We ultimately chose the first and second rows. The core consideration was not "which seats are easier to rotate," but rather two most practical user experience issues after rotating: whether there is enough space for face-to-face seating, and whether entry and exit are convenient.
Taking the N90 Max as an example, after rotating the front seats 180°, the original longitudinal space in the front row can be fully utilized, forming a dual-person face-to-face space of up to 1760mm with the second row. Even adults who are 1.8 meters tall can sit face-to-face comfortably without their legs interfering with each other.
From the perspective of entry and exit convenience, with face-to-face seating between the first and second rows, passengers in both the front and second rows can naturally and conveniently enter and exit through the rear doors. If the second and third row face-to-face scheme were adopted, after rotating the second-row seats, not only would the legroom between second and third-row members be somewhat restricted, but the seats would also significantly encroach on the door entry/exit pathway, noticeably compromising the entry and exit experience. Furthermore, our extra-large door opening angle of nearly 90° would not be able to demonstrate its full value.
In addition, we have insights regarding the frequency of use for face-to-face seating. If it were second and third row face-to-face seating, every time you wanted to enter this scenario, you would necessarily need to open up the third row. If the user's third-row seats are folded forward and the trunk is loaded with items, they would need to remove the items first and reopen the third row, affecting both convenience and efficiency. In contrast, first and second row face-to-face seating does not require considering the third row, allowing for more convenient activation of face-to-face mode anytime, anywhere.
Therefore, our choice was not just to make the "seats rotatable," but to ensure that after rotation, people can truly sit face-to-face comfortably and spaciously, and enter and exit easily, making the face-to-face mode a parking space feature that users genuinely want to use, find easy to use, and love to use.
Here, we must also specially remind you that, for safety reasons, the front seat rotation function can only be used when the vehicle is in Park (P) gear.
