Why are there "cracks" on the carbon ceramic brake discs?
The "crack" patterns on the surface of carbon ceramic brake discs are an inherent characteristic of coated carbon-ceramic discs. Coated carbon-ceramic discs using the same process on the market all exhibit this characteristic.
The coating, mainly composed of silicon carbide, helps maintain the uniformity of the friction surface and protects the internal matrix material of the disc. This coating naturally forms fine surface "crack" patterns after undergoing high temperatures during production. Verification has shown that coated carbon-ceramic discs perform better than uncoated ones, and this does not affect the strength or performance of the brake discs.
The racing-grade carbon ceramic brake discs equipped on the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra have a maximum operating temperature exceeding 1300 degrees Celsius. Under normal use, their service life can exceed 500,000 kilometers, requiring almost no maintenance for the lifetime of the vehicle under normal conditions.
