What is C-NCAP? What are the differences between the new 2024 regulations and previous testing rules?
C-NCAP (China New Car Assessment Program) was initiated by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center. It aims to conduct comprehensive safety performance tests on vehicles—including occupant protection, Vulnerable Road User (VRU) protection, and active safety—under stricter and more comprehensive requirements, thereby providing consumers with more systematic and objective vehicle safety information.
The 2024 version of the C-NCAP evaluation protocol includes 23 changes: 11 new items and 12 revised items. The overall testing dimensions are more comprehensive and challenging. For example:
Frontal 100% Overlap Rigid Barrier Crash: Impact speed increased from 50km/h to 56km/h;
Movable Deformable Barrier Side Impact: Impact speed increased from 50km/h to 60km/h, and barrier weight increased from 1400kg to 1700kg;
Side Pole Impact: Added rear-seat child dummies and far-side occupant assessments.
Despite these increased challenges, the Xiaomi SU7 achieved an outstanding result with a comprehensive score rate of 93.5%, ranking first among all tested models in C-NCAP (2024 Version). Thus, the Xiaomi SU7 has completed its "Grand Slam" of safety test certifications:
C-NCAP Five-Star Certification, ranked first in comprehensive score rate under the 2024 protocol;
China Insurance Automotive Safety Index (C-IASI) new regulation tests, currently the only sedan to achieve 3G+/A ratings;
Highest rating in the 2024 China Intelligent Vehicle Index, achieving a 4G+ result;
2024 CATARC Top Ten Body Evaluation, awarded "Best Structure Award" and authoritative certification as "2024 China's Top Ten Bodies."
