I noticed what appears to be rust on the vehicle's brake discs. Why is this happening?
Since most cars use brake discs made of gray cast iron or similar materials, these materials tend to rust when exposed to humid air or rain, especially with the recent rainy season. This is a common scenario encountered by many vehicles and is considered normal, so there is no need to worry. The Xiaomi SU7 features an excellent kinetic energy recovery braking mechanism, which reduces the usage of the hydraulic braking system, but rust may still occur.
Slight rust usually does not affect braking performance. To quickly remove rust, you can perform continuous braking on a safe road section.
For such situations, we provide two brake disc rust removal functions: one passive and one active:
Passive Rust Removal: When using the high kinetic energy recovery mode, the vehicle will periodically apply hydraulic brakes to perform "disc grinding" for rust removal. This works silently with almost no perceptible effect on the driver.
Active Rust Removal: This is mainly designed for quick rust removal after the vehicle has been parked for a long time. You can open Settings in the control bar below the center console screen, go to Security & Services > Brake Disc Rust Removal, and click to enable or disable this function. Please note that once the brake disc rust removal function is enabled, the brake energy recovery function cannot be used, and you need to press the brake pedal to obtain braking force.
