Why do my front wheels seem to make a "clunk" sound when turning sharply in cold weather or when the car is "cold"?

When the ambient temperature or tire temperature is low, the front wheels may sometimes emit a "clunk" sound when performing sharp turns during low-speed parking maneuvers. This is usually a normal manifestation of the steering system's "Ackermann angle" design under cold conditions, so there is no need to worry.

The "Ackermann angle" design refers to the difference in steering angles between the two front wheels when the vehicle turns, designed to make the turn smoother and more precise (typically, the inner front wheel has a larger steering angle than the outer front wheel). When the weather is cold or the tire temperature is low, the tire rubber temporarily hardens, and grip decreases slightly. At this time, if a sharp turn is performed, slight sliding friction occurs between the tires and the ground, producing a noise, which may sometimes be accompanied by slight body sway.

This phenomenon is relatively common in winter. Normally, after driving for a certain distance, as the tire temperature rises, this situation will naturally diminish or disappear.
