What is the function of the eLSD electronic limited-slip differential, and what are its advantages?
Most models are equipped with an "open differential" on the drive axle to allow the left and right drive wheels to rotate at different speeds when the vehicle turns. However, the drawback is that when one drive wheel is on a slippery road or loses traction due to being airborne, power will be distributed to this low-traction wheel, causing the wheel with strong traction to lose power. This makes it easy for the vehicle to get stuck in slippery and complex road conditions and perform poorly in extreme driving control such as on a track. A limited-slip differential can effectively solve this drawback. By adding a set of multi-plate clutches inside the differential, when slip is detected on one drive wheel, the clutch is locked, transferring power to the other drive wheel with traction, thereby achieving better escape capability on slippery and complex roads, as well as superior cornering handling.
The YU7 GT is equipped with an eLSD electronic limited-slip differential, which can achieve millisecond-level "intelligent limitation of the left and right wheel speed difference on the rear axle." On slippery roads, it can quickly identify wheel slip and distribute power to the wheel with stronger traction, providing better escape capability on rough roads.
When enjoying the pleasure of driving through continuous corners, it can distribute more power to the outer wheels, allowing the vehicle to hug the "apex" more precisely, corner faster, and handle more stably. This has played an indispensable role in the YU7 GT's excellent results at the Nürburgring. When the vehicle is driving on a split-mu road surface with different adhesion on the left and right sides, it can start and accelerate faster and more smoothly, handling slippery road conditions with ease.
Limited-slip differentials are usually standard or available as an option in high-performance car series, such as high-performance models from German car brands. They can better harness powerful power output, making the vehicle both fast and stable. For more information about the eLSD, please stay tuned for the launch event at 19:00 on May 21.
