If the air suspension tank is hit in a rear-end collision, will it pose any safety risk?

Official answer

The Xiaomi SU7 Max comes standard with closed-loop air springs. The air spring gas storage tank is an indispensable component of this configuration. In low-speed rear-end collision scenarios involving regular sedans, SUVs, and other vehicles, the impact force can be easily dissipated by the anti-collision beam, thanks to Xiaomi's proprietary three-stage integrated die-cast rear floor. During over 40 internal safety tests conducted by Xiaomi Auto, we also considered the crash safety of the gas tank. In a 100% overlap rear-end collision at 56 km/h, the anti-collision beam absorbed the energy, the gas tank was not impacted, and its function remained intact.

In the recent Xiaomi SU7 Max rear-end accident, the vehicle behind was a sports car with a very low front end, which bypassed the SU7 Max's rear anti-collision beam and slid underneath, ultimately causing the gas tank to detach. In fact, placing the gas tank outside the passenger compartment at the rear is not unique to Xiaomi; some international luxury flagship sedans and SUVs use similar designs.
