For sound insulation and strength, is it true that the thicker the window glass, the better?
Not exactly. Window glass must meet multi-dimensional performance requirements such as strength, weight, sound insulation, and sun/heat protection. For example, all models of the Xiaomi YU7 and the new-generation SU7 use laminated glass for the four door windows, consisting of physically tempered glass + a PVB interlayer + 1.1mm thick chemically tempered glass. At a similar overall glass thickness, sound insulation performance is primarily determined by the acoustic blocking ability of the PVB interlayer. Meanwhile, chemically tempered glass, with its higher strength characteristics, can be made thinner while still meeting strength requirements. This reduces the weight of the laminated glass while still achieving excellent sound insulation and sun/heat protection performance. Therefore, thickness is not necessarily directly related to sound insulation and strength.
You also don't need to worry about laminated glass being difficult to break in an emergency. Upon delivery of the Xiaomi YU7 and the new-generation SU7, a window-breaking hammer specifically developed for laminated glass will be included with the vehicle. Beyond the pursuit of comfort experiences like sound insulation and sun/heat protection, safety is always the prerequisite.
