Why are the wiring harnesses of the Xiaomi SU7 made of aluminum instead of copper? Is this "cutting corners"?
Currently, the vast majority of OEMs use aluminum conductor solutions for charging cables and other components, and the Xiaomi SU7 is no exception. Aluminum conductors offer the same conductor performance and safety as copper conductors; although their conductivity differs, they can achieve the same current-carrying capacity by adjusting the cross-sectional area.
However, aluminum conductors also possess advantages that copper conductors do not, such as lightweight properties. Aluminum wires are 30% lighter than copper wires.
Therefore, for electric vehicles, given the additional focus on range and fast charging, the "copper-to-aluminum" transition has already become a mainstream development trend in the industry. Claims of cutting corners are absolutely baseless.
