Long-term Episode 183 · Question 3

When entering a shopping mall garage on a rainy day, I always feel like the tires aren't gripping the ground well. How should I drive safely?

Official answer

When entering garages on rainy days or during humid, damp weather, especially those with epoxy flooring, please be sure to slow down in advance, keeping your speed under 10km/h. We also recommend switching to a driving mode with higher stability, such as Snow Mode, Comfort Mode, or Novice Mode, to reduce the risk of accidents.

Many underground garages now use epoxy flooring. This material is widely used because it is self-leveling, aesthetically pleasing, smooth, and easy to clean. However, epoxy becomes very slippery when wet, causing a significant drop in tire traction. If the speed is too high, braking distance increases substantially due to insufficient traction, greatly increasing the risk of accidents. Therefore, when entering an underground garage with epoxy flooring on rainy or humid days, you should slow down, maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, and try to avoid areas with standing water or damp epoxy surfaces. If avoidance is not possible, drive at low speed and steer gently to avoid tire slippage.
