Why does the Xiaomi Pengcheng use a large 76kWh battery? Is a large battery necessary for an extended-range vehicle?

Official answer

The maximum battery capacity across the Xiaomi Pengcheng series is 76kWh. The choice of this number stems from our underlying philosophy for extended-range products: "long pure electric range." "Long pure electric range" is designed to allow users to enjoy a pure electric experience in the vast majority of scenarios, using the range extender to ensure the continuity of the pure electric experience during long trips.

The Xiaomi Pengcheng series offers a maximum pure electric range of 380km under WLTC and 505km under CLTC. From the perspective of real-world usage scenarios, most users' travel consists mainly of daily commuting and urban driving, with daily mileage concentrated in the tens of kilometers. This range level is sufficient to cover a week or even longer of daily travel without the need for additional charging or starting the range extender, allowing users to enjoy the quiet and smooth driving experience of a pure electric vehicle while keeping daily operating costs lower.

If the battery capacity is too small, requiring charging every two or three days and starting the range extender for slightly longer trips, it would instead lose the core experiential advantages of a new energy vehicle.
