What is the principle behind the wading radar? Can it monitor water levels in real time when passing through flooded sections?
The released Xiaomi Pengcheng N70 Max and N90 Max have identical hardware configurations related to wading capabilities. The wading sensing system includes two wading radars, installed under the left and right side mirrors respectively. After activating Wading Mode, they can monitor the water depth in real time.
The wading radar is an ultrasonic radar that calculates water level height based on the difference in reflection of sound waves at interfaces between different media: the sensor continuously emits ultrasonic waves downward. When the sound waves hit the water surface, they reflect back. The system calculates the current height of the water surface relative to the sensor based on the time difference and energy attenuation of the echo. The two wading radars on the left and right monitor synchronously. The collected raw distance data undergoes filtering, followed by left-right depth comparison and cross-validation, finally outputting a stable, reliable, and more practical water depth value.
After manually tapping to enter Wading Mode, the vehicle suspension automatically adjusts to the highest position, and the wading radars immediately enter high-frequency operating status. Key information such as current water depth, vehicle pitch angle, and vehicle roll angle is clearly and realistically displayed on the instrument cluster, allowing the driver to always master the vehicle's wading driving status.
